Human social life is a paradoxical mixture: despite an inherent need for harmony, it is constantly prone to conflict arising from diverse individual desires. This study aims to identify the components of social consensus (wifaqa) from a Qur’anic perspective, grounded in the unity of human essence. The significance of this research lies in proposing Qur’anic strategies for achieving social cohesion and addressing the challenges faced by contemporary societies.
Using a descriptive-analytical approach and qualitative content analysis, the study examines verses related to the nature of human existence, the necessity of law and ethics in social life, and the role of love and compassion. The findings indicate that the fundamental basis for consensus is the “unity of human essence,” which defines society as a single reality. Three primary components are essential to realizing this:
Law, which serves as a minimal guardian of shared reality, ensuring obligatory compliance.
Ethics, which represents an internal, voluntary manifestation of human unity, emphasizing mutual dignity and creating a more stable, conscious form of consensus. However, ethics remains vulnerable to human fallibility due to the exercise of free will.
Love and Kindness, the highest component, stemming from the innate recognition of human oneness. By fostering natural attraction and promoting self-sacrifice, these virtues elevate social cohesion to its most perfect and complete form.
