Although in its early decades, the movement of feminism was viewed as a social and political movement, it continued its path through introduction of the theoretical arenas by presenting philosophical theories, cultural critique, and theories. Epistemology is one of the philosophical fields which feminist scholars have come up with and presented theories.
This research, by benefitting from analytical method and using library resources, first explains the foundations of feminist epistemology and then criticizes it. The role of gender in knowledge, the role of socio-political factors and criticizing scientific objectivism are of the most important feminist epistemology foundations. Feminist epistemologists have presented alternative theories after criticizing formal epistemology.
Feminist empiricism, vision theory and the theory of postmodernism are three important feminist epistemological theories. Feminist epistemology has been criticized by many thinkers of different fields. The present research shows that from both confessional and non-confessional approach towards religion, the feminist epistemology views face serious challenges
