Indifference to others, esp. neighbors, and apathy toward socio-political events in a society are being intensified and affecting peoples’ lives more as much as the societies develop, cities get bigger, and values transform.
In this paper, we try to infer the implausibility of indifference among neighbors with an ethical approach using documentary method and content analysis; this is done with the help of Quranic maxims, hadith and rational arguments. Then some reasons for disapproving of indifference are presented to help neighbors’ social behaviours be changed and make an opportunity for establishing sympathy among them.
Researches show Islamic teachings are hateful of indifference. Some reasons given in this paper are its incompatibility with the core of Islamic maxims and its opposition to principles such as responsibility, social correlation, social observation, profitability and benevolence along with its incompatibility with etical rules such as generalization and Golden Rule.
